When you stand on the Peristyle in Split and touch its columns or the sphinx that guards them, it is an incredible realization that you are touching history that is thousands of years old. Even more incredible is the realization that there are living witnesses to the creation of that history. One of them is Stara maslina (Perišić's mastrinka) in Kaštel Štafilić. The age of this mute witness of ancient events is estimated at over 1,500 years (according to some, 1,700), which ranks it among the oldest in the world.*
