This famous railway winds its way on a journey from Cairns to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest, with Freshwater situated along the line with views of the surrounding mountains. Rising from sea level to 327 metres, the journey to Kuranda passes spectacular waterfalls and into the stunning Barron Gorge. The journey includes an English commentary and all passengers receive a commentary companion which includes information on the history of the railways construction, a trip map and a map of Kuranda. When you have finished meandering through the markets and had your fill of fudge and ice-cream, head to the train station to enjoy a scenic ride down the mountain back to Cairns Stopping at the Barron Falls, from the opposite side to where the Skyrail lookout is. Through various tunnels and around a few u bends, there are plenty of photo opportunities on this unique journey through the heritage listed rainforest. Skyrail and train passes may be purchased together, which includes a transfer from Freshwater Station back to the Skyrail carpark (or vice versa). Don't forget to ask the friendly staff at your preferred attraction.
