Melrose Abbey is a spectacular, partly ruined monastery of the Cistercian order in Melrose, founded in 1136 by monks at the request of King David I of Scotland. Wander the Abbey in your own time or take one of their guided tours.

Iconic Scottish Borders Abbey with the Priory Gardens attached. Melrose also has Roman ruins and trails, great places to eat and wonderful independent shops.

Melrose is a beautiful Borders town, with lots of interesting shops and places to eat. There are good walks along the Tweed and over the bridge towards Gattonside. Melrose Abbey is one of four Border abbeys (the others, also worth visiting are Dryburgh, near St Boswells, Jedburgh and Kelso).

Melrose Abbey is located approximately 10 minutes walk from the cottage. It is a partly ruined monastery of the Cistercian order in Melrose, Roxburghshire, in the Scottish Borders. It was founded in 1136 by Cistercian monks at the request of King David I of Scotland and was the chief house of that order in the country until the Reformation.
