Can be combined with White Castle and Grosmont for an ambitious day's walk. Also has a charming river for paddling and the excellent pub, The Bell.

there's some great wild swimming around the back of the castle and a great picnic spot in the castle grounds

One of the ‘Three Castles of Gwent’ (along with Grosmont and White Castle). Between them, the Three Castles controlled a large area of confrontational border, with Skenfrith occupying a strategic spot on the banks of the River Monnow. 🗺️ 7.4 miles from Ynys Hut. 📌 Skenfrith, Abergavenny, NP7 8UH.

One of the ‘Three Castles of Gwent’ (along with Grosmont and White Castle) founded by Norman lord William fitz Osbern in the early 12th century, the remains of Skenfrith we see today are of a later fortress constructed in the 13th century by Hubert de Burgh. Definitely worth a visit is you are interested in history. Perhaps combine your visit with a visit to The Bell for lunch (details of the pub in 'food scene' category).
