Just a 10 minute drive away. Fascinating excavation of Roman Supply fort and village with museum and tea room.

One of the best places to visit if you’re interested in Hadrian’s Wall. Lots to see, including different parts of the wall and forts, and includes two museums, active excavations, as well as reconstructions, giving the visitor a real sense of what life was like in Roman times. There’s also a cafe and shop.

A must-see for any visitor to Hadrian's Wall. Although not on the Wall itself but on an earlier Roman frontier, Vindolanda is the only fort in the Hadrian's Wall 'corridor' that is undergoing complete excavation. There is a lot to see here including the excellent Visitor Centre that displays the best of Vindolanda's amazing finds including the world-famous writing tablets.

Pre dating Hadrian's Wall itself, Vindolanda was a Roman Fort just South of the wall where archaeologists have uncovered extensive foundations of a well established settlment. The site offers a museum where the story of Vindolanda is told through the display of artefacts uncovered at the site, and there is also a café and gift shop.

a living archaeological site where digs go on year round. The ticket will also give you admission to the Roman Army museum approx. 5 miles away.
