Cafe and heritage centre - not sure if it is still a convent but still worth a visit. Cafe quite basic (sandwiches, baked potatoes, etc).
The Convent of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin at Micklegate Bar, York, better known as The Bar Convent, is the oldest surviving Roman Catholic convent in England, established in 1686
Beautiful interior. Reasonably priced food in good quantities. The Convent museum is also worth visiting for its history of religious persecution, and understanding of why the Convent needed to be disguised as an ordinary building.
The Grade 1 Listed eighteenth-century buildings house a state-of-the-art Exhibition, an award-winning Cafe and features a secret Catholic Chapel and authentic Priest hole.
